On October 2, 2016, Monika Sacks, Eileen Slank, Karen Sendelbach and Lori Buiteweg participated as a team in the second annual Cooking for a Cause, a fundraising event benefitting the programs and services of Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County (CSSW).
Nichols, Sacks, Slank, Sendelbach & Buiteweg was again a proud sponsor of this year’s Saline Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing held June 27, 2016. The annual event brings the community together for an 18 hole, 4-person scramble complete with meals, raffles, games and awards. As past President and long-time volunteer for the outing, Monika Sacks had a great time representing the firm on the green.

The selection process includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations.
Monika Sacks was the moderator at the ICLE Fundamentals of Divorce seminar held on September 22, 2015. She also presented on the topic of “Negotiation, ADR, and Settlement: What Results Can You Achieve in Divorce Cases.
Lori Buiteweg received the Outstanding Service Award and recognition of her leadership with the founding of the Legal Resource Center and her dedication to the Center’s continuing mission to serve the People of Washtenaw County.

Monika Sacks presented “Void and Voidable Marriages” (marriages that are void from the outset between close relatives and underage partners), and voidable (people who don’t disclose important information) at the 2015 AAML Annual Advanced Family Law Seminar held in Birmingham.
Lori Buiteweg presented “Parenting Time – Facts the Court may Consider and Details the Court may Order including Emergency Orders” at the 2015 AAML Annual Advanced Family Law Seminar held in Birmingham.
Monika Sacks attended the Mid-Winter Conference for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in Panama. She presented “Taking Control of Your Financial Well-Being” in a Rehmann Group seminar.
Karen Sendelbach co-presented in the “Military Divorce” webinar on the ICLE website.
Elizabeth Solomon assisted Monika with revisions to Monika’s book Divorce Cases in Michigan: A Systems Approach, published by the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Lori Buiteweg coordinated Constitution Day in Ann Arbor Public Schools.
Eileen Slank attended the Probate and Estate Planning Institute in Grand Rapids in May. She is enrolled in the Probate and Estate Planning Certificate Program through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
Katherine Sharkey is the chair of the FOC Liaison Committee and the co-chair of the Public Service/Pro Bono Committee for the Washtenaw County Bar Association. She was appointed to the Washtenaw County Bar Association Board of Directors. She has completed her term as the Immediate Past-President of the Woman Lawyers Association for the Washtenaw County Region. Kate presented “Evidence in Family Law Cases” at the CORT Training for Legal Services attorneys.
Congratulations to NSSSB Attorney Eileen Slank for her efforts as a founding member of LIPA, the professional volunteer group that was instrumental in setting the stage for the implementation of the first mandatory mediation program in Livingston County Court.

Becky Frieseman – served as a guest server for the St. Vincent DePaul Society Fundraiser to help the poor in our community. Becky completed a half marathon on April 18, 2015, the Tri-Goddess triathlon on June 14, 2015, and continues training for the Pterodactyl triathlon on July 15, 2015; The Girls Best Friend triathlon in Kalamazoo on August 15, 2015; the Festival of Races triathlon on September 12, 2015; and a half marathon in October, 2015.
